Observations From New Mexico

I just returned from a two weeks stay in New Mexico with my family.  During that time I had to listen to and read the antique media because I didn't take my laptop with me and was without internet access.  Thank God for Rush Limbaugh!

The conventional wisdom according to the MSM seems to be that the Democrats are sure to win the November elections.  I've known some old people who swore they could predict the weather based on how their bunions felt.  They would often be more accurate than the weatherman.  Well, my political bunions in the form of my family, are telling me that the MSM and the left are going to be in for a rude awakening next November.

My family is old fashion Democrat to the core.  Any of them would rather jump off a bridge than vote Republican.  I approach political discussions with them with great caution.  This time however I noticed a distinct dissatisfaction on their part regarding the Democratic party.  My parents made several references to the party's lack of core values and beliefs.  They didn't state it in such terms.  It was more like "What the heck do they stand for other than being against Bush?"  They were much more open to my ideas than at any time in the recent past.

My parents, aunts, uncles, etc. are all Hispanic and proud of it.  But they are all Americans first and very proud of it.  They are completely disgusted with the immigration issue, but not in the sense that many would think.  They believe that illegal aliens have taken over that part of the country and now have more rights than they do.  This, by the way, is the view of many Mexican-Americans.  My Dad expressed a dislike for New Mexico Governor Richardson, himself an Hispanic. Would somebody please tell both parties to understand the "Latino vote" before courting it?

So let the pundits and other assorted experts make their predictions and observations. Something tells me things are not as those pundits see them.

I Blog Therefore I Am

After several months of forwarding e-mails and news stories to friends and relatives (at the risk of becoming a pain in the butt) I've decided to take the plunge and start a blog.  This wondrous twenty first century medium has changed our world in so many ways and I've decided I want in on the action.

We live in interesting times.  We're in the midst of the first world war of our century yet many don't feel or care to know about the threats we face.  We've not been attacked in our own soil since September 11, 2001 yet many express the fear that our country is less safe.  Various terrorist attempts from suicidal, homicidal, islamofacists have been thwarted, yet many express an intense fear and hatred of our own president.

I grew up in the Democratic party of old.  The Democratic party that took its last breath when it threw Joe Liebermann overboard.  The old party of Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and others has been hijacked by the kooks on the extreme left and represents a danger to the established values of the American founders and of the old party faithful.  I didn't know I was a conservative until I saw what liberalism and the Democratic party had become.

The USA is still the greatest nation in the history of the world.  It upsets me when so many of our citizens feel they have to apologize for being an American. One of the reasons for establishing this blog is to celebrate Americanism and to help spread the word about this great country of ours.  I also want to dispel as many myths as possible that are spread by liberal special interest groups and the antique media. With your help we can do great things.
